Suwon Hwaseong Tickets: Free Walls, Separate Haenggung Admission

Suwon’s fortress walls and Hwaseong Haenggung are different visits. The open fortress is free; the palace has its own ticket and admission deadline. Pick your starting point before leaving Seoul.

  4. Save wall finish and return
An open outer wall surrounds a separate palace block marked by a ticket symbol and clock.
Original concept: an open fortress area and a separately ticketed palace. Not a scale map.

Know what the ticket covers

The Suwon Cultural Foundation lists Hwaseong as an open, free attraction available year-round, including evening viewing. This does not mean every building, activity or exhibition inside the wider area is free or open at night.

Hwaseong Haenggung has separate admission. As checked on 9 October 2026, the individual adult ticket is 2,000 won, daytime hours are 09:00–18:00 and entry closes one hour before closing. Check eligibility evidence rather than assuming a resident or age concession applies to you.

Official guidance

Choose a palace pin or a wall gate

For the palace, save 화성행궁, 수원시 팔달구 정조로 825. The foundation gives a route from Suwon Station Exit 4, the Novotel stop, on bus 11 or 13 to 화성행궁, 수원성지, followed by a short walk. Confirm the stop and service in a current route planner.

For a wall-focused visit, choose a specific gate such as 장안문 or 창룡문 and use that point’s official transport instructions. A map pin for “Hwaseong” can leave you far from the palace entrance. Do not spend your admission window walking toward the wrong gate.

Official guidance

Order the day around the closing part

If seeing the palace matters, visit it before the admission cutoff and then choose a manageable wall section. Save a start, finish and return bus stop; a full wall circuit is not compulsory for a worthwhile visit.

Night opening at Haenggung is a seasonal, dated programme. Read the foundation’s current night-opening notice for your date. Evening access to the open fortress does not prove the palace ticket desk will be open.

A worked example

Arriving at 17:10 may still leave an outdoor fortress walk, but it is after the listed daytime palace admission cutoff. Move Haenggung earlier rather than treating both places as one ticketed site.

Common questions

Do I need a ticket for the entire fortress?

The foundation currently lists the open Hwaseong fortress as free. Haenggung and separate activities have their own conditions.

Is the palace always open at night?

No. Check the dated seasonal night-opening programme.
