Choose the rental branch before planning your walk. The Bukhansan and Gwanaksan hiking centers have different locations and closure days. Confirm the gear size, fee and return deadline with that branch; a general opening time is not a rental confirmation.
Match the branch to your actual starting area
The Bukhansan center is on the fifth floor at 서울 강북구 삼양로173길 52. The Gwanaksan center is inside Gwanaksan Station on the Sillim Line, by Exit 1, at 서울 관악구 신림로 23. Save the Korean branch name and address together. These are gear/information centers, not interchangeable mountain entrances. Check your final travel leg to the chosen branch.

Check the branch’s closure day
Current Seoul tourism pages list both centers at 09:00–18:00, with Bukhansan closed Mondays and Gwanaksan closed Wednesdays. Bukhansan also lists Lunar New Year’s Day and Chuseok Day. Recheck branch notices for the date. Free entry to a center does not mean all gear is free: the current Gwanaksan listing says a small rental fee applies for foreign visitors.

Confirm the gear and reservation details
Record item, size, visitor eligibility, rental price, collection date and return terms before relying on the gear. The Bukhansan page points to seoulhiking.or.kr for advance reservations; during this check the booking site displayed a temporary traffic-limit page. If it remains unavailable, contact Bukhansan at 1533-2608 or Gwanaksan at 1533-2162. Do not treat an unsent form or a closed website as a confirmed booking.

Work backward from the agreed return deadline
Ask the branch for the actual gear-return deadline and storage retrieval rules, then plan travel back plus your own margin before it. Center closing at 18:00 does not establish a later drop-off service or permission to return at another branch. If the desired size or date cannot be confirmed, change your plan before leaving rather than count on walk-in stock.

A worked example
Hypothetical plan: the branch confirms a 17:30 return deadline, and your return journey is estimated at 40 minutes. Set a separate margin of 20 minutes, so begin the return by 16:30. These inputs are examples, not the center’s stated policy or a hiking-duration recommendation. Replace them with your actual agreement and route, and shorten the outing if they do not fit.
