Seoraksan Cable Car Tickets: Same-Day Purchase and a Safe Return Plan

Seoraksan Cable Car sells tickets on site for the same day. Book your day around the weather and the actual boarding time, then return by cable car from the upper station.

At-a-glance sequence
  1. Check weather operation
  2. Buy same-day return ticket
  3. Check upper return deadline
  4. Ride down
A cable car links a lower station and mountain station, with arrows in both directions and a crossed-out walking path.
Original route concept: return by cable car; this is not a trail map.

What you can book in advance

The operator does not accept advance reservations because operation depends on weather. Buy at the lower station’s first-floor ticket counter and read the boarding time printed on your ticket. A hotel or bus reservation is not a cable-car reservation.

Check the official operating notice before travelling to Sogongwon. A timetable from a previous visit is not a promise for your day. If the car is suspended, keep a separate ground-level plan rather than rushing onto a mountain trail.

Official guidance

A return ticket is essential to the route

The operator sells round-trip tickets, not one-way tickets. Its FAQ explains that there is no downhill hiking route from the upper station: return on the cable car. Do not plan to ride up and improvise a walk back to the entrance.

Ask staff for the return boarding arrangement and final return time before exploring. Keep the ticket available. The cable car goes toward Gwongeumseong; it should not be treated as transport to every Seoraksan hiking summit.

Official guidance

Protect your onward connection

The guide asks riders to reach the second-floor platform five minutes before boarding. Allow time at the counter, and do not schedule a fixed bus or dinner around an assumed short queue.

As checked on 9 October 2026, tickets are fully refundable until ten minutes before boarding; later refunds or time changes incur a 20% deduction. Unused tickets affected by an operator weather suspension are refunded in full. Confirm the applicable condition at the counter.

Official guidance

Set two reminders from the time on your ticket

For an illustrative uphill ticket at 14:30, the full-refund cutoff is 14:20 and arrival at the second-floor platform is 14:25. These are different deadlines. Do not use the time you joined the sales queue or bought the ticket as the boarding time.

Work backwards from your onward departure

These numbers are assumptions chosen to demonstrate the arithmetic, not measured bus times or today’s downhill wait. Replace them with your checked times and allowances.

Value to check and recordIllustrative assumption
Onward bus departure17:00
Lower station to onward boarding point, including local transport wait75 min
Personal allowance before the onward bus20 min
Assumed downhill queue25 min
Downhill rideAbout 5 min, operator guidance
Desired time at the top30 min

Under these assumptions, aim to join the downhill queue at 17:00 − 75 − 20 − 25 − 5 minutes = 14:55. Subtract about 5 minutes uphill and 30 minutes at the top: the uphill target is 14:20. A 14:30 ticket is 10 minutes too late for this particular plan.

Turn the calculation into a purchase decision

Compare the calculation with staff’s current downhill queue guidance and final departure. If the operating deadline is earlier, shorten the plan accordingly. Unknown queue or transfer information stays unknown, not zero. Any wait beyond your assumption consumes your allowance.

  • Before buying: if the offered uphill time does not fit, change the stay or onward service, or choose another activity.
  • After buying: ask at the counter before your ticket’s refund cutoff if you need to change plans.
  • At the top: keep the ticket and follow return instructions. Walking down is not a fallback in this calculation.
