Hallasan Summit Reservation: Know Which Section Your Booking Covers

Hallasan’s current reservation notice concerns the upper sections toward Baengnokdam on Seongpanak and Gwaneumsa. A trail marked “normal operation” does not mean a summit reservation is available for your date.

At-a-glance sequence
  1. Choose summit or shorter route
  2. Check dated booking
  3. Save confirmation
  4. Check trail status
Two separate paths reach a summit through upper checkpoints, while a third path ends at a lower viewpoint.
Conceptual route distinction, not a hiking map or a statement of trail distances.

A trail name is not the whole booking rule

The park’s 12 May 2025 notice identifies the reserved sections as Jindallaebat–Baengnokdam on Seongpanak and Samgakbong–Baengnokdam on Gwaneumsa. It lists Eorimok, Yeongsil, Donnaeko, Seokguram and Eoseungsaengak without this reservation requirement. Those walks are not interchangeable summit bookings.

Decide whether reaching Baengnokdam is actually your goal. If so, select the appropriate reservation course and date in the official portal. If you only want a shorter walk, use the park’s trail description to choose a route matching your ability.

Official guidance

Check date availability and save the result

The notice says reservations open at 09:00 on the previous month’s first business day, with up to four people per booking. Use the portal’s date selector and current notices; do not extrapolate from a temporary waiver in an old announcement.

After booking, retrieve the confirmation, verify every hiker’s details and save the entry code as directed. A page showing “normal operation” is a status notice, not your confirmed reservation. Cancel an unused booking through the official service.

Confirm access again before leaving your hotel

Check trail status and the current entry/checkpoint cutoff instructions for the actual date. The English guide contains different historical cutoff tables, so this article does not present a single copied timetable as current. Ask the park if instructions conflict.

Arrange transport to the selected trailhead and a return plan. A reservation is not a weather clearance or a guarantee of reaching the summit. Turn back when park staff instruct, and avoid planning a flight connection immediately after a long hike.

A worked example

“Seongpanak operating normally” and “reservation unavailable” can appear together. For a summit visit, the first statement cannot replace the missing booking; choose another available date or a different non-summit plan.

Common questions

Does a Yeongsil walk reach the reserved Baengnokdam section?

It is a different route. Use the park’s route map rather than treating every Hallasan walk as a summit visit.

Does my reservation guarantee access?

No. Weather, closures and checkpoint rules still apply.
