A Tmoney card is easy to top up during a trip, but its remaining balance needs planning before departure. First confirm that you have a physical Tmoney card. EZL, WOWPASS, Climate Card and mobile Tmoney products have different refund routes. The Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) says a balance over ₩50,000 on a regular Tmoney card must be handled at Tmoney Town near Seoul Station.

- Identify your card
- Check balance and final fare
- Spend or choose refund point
- Confirm hours and fees
Check three things the day before departure
Identify the card, then check its stored balance at a participating convenience store or subway machine. Separate the price paid for the plastic card from the money loaded onto it; do not assume both are refundable.
KTO says smaller regular Tmoney balances can be refunded at convenience stores, while amounts over ₩50,000 are handled at Tmoney Town near Seoul Station Exit 10. Confirm current opening hours, any fee and whether your chosen branch can process the refund before travelling there.
Spend the balance or request a refund?
Keep enough value for your last subway or bus ride first. For a small remainder, spending it at a merchant displaying the Tmoney logo may be simpler than travelling to a refund point. Ask whether that particular shop accepts the card before buying.
Emptying the card immediately before an airport transfer may leave you without transport fare. Loading a large amount just before leaving can create the opposite problem. Top up only what your remaining travel is likely to require.
A useful sentence at the counter
Show the card and ask: “티머니 잔액 환불 가능한가요?” (Tmoney jan-aek hwan-bul ga-neung-han-ga-yo?) It means “Can I get a refund of the balance on this Tmoney card?” If the clerk cannot do it, ask why and check the official refund route.
The KTO guide reflects information updated in August 2026. Branch availability, charges and hours can change, so verify them on the day.
A worked example
Suppose your physical Tmoney card has ₩8,000 left and you still need transport to the airport. Reserve the amount needed for that journey first. You can then spend a small remainder at an eligible merchant or ask a convenience store about a refund. ₩8,000 is a hypothetical balance, not a suggested fare.

KTO directs balances over ₩50,000 to Tmoney Town near Seoul Station.
Should I refund everything before my airport ride?
